The Christmas season starts early here in the Carolinas. The weekend before Thanksgiving we went to Birkdale- an outdoor mall (like San Tan or Southlands for you AZ or CO peeps!)- for their annual tree lighting. We got there early and made a beeline for Starbucks for some liquid warmth.

The crowds lining up for the parade-- which turned out to be one high school marching band followed by two cars-- not exactly worthy of lining up early.
But then the man of the hour arrived and everyone was happy and excited!! Santa flipped the switch and the tree lit up to kick off the holiday season!!
