On the way home from our trip to Winston-Salem we stopped at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, NC. The zoo sits on 1500 acres in the Uwharrie Mountains and 500 acres have been developed into one of the nation's largest "natural habitat" zoos.
Welcome to the zoo!
This is the view at the entrance of the zoo.
Christopher and Ben stopped to pose for a picture!
One of our first stops of the day was the sealions. These two were taking a nap but the other ones were cruising around the pool!
Polar bear, polar bear, what do you see?
I see people looking at me!
Ben's not quite as big as a polar bear!
We have been to MANY zoos over the years and I think that this is the biggest zoo I've ever seen. It's divided into two areas: North America and Africa and has busses running between the two. We walked through both areas- there are over 5 miles of trails throughout the zoo!! We did A LOT of walking and it was very hilly! The kids enjoyed taking a break wherever they could!
Christopher and Nicholas stopped on a bench.
While Lexie napped in the stroller.
The grounds of the zoo were beautiful!
Sweet Ben
Lexie's on the go! :)
Christopher and Nicholas enjoyed playing in the mist by the elephants.
Lexie's favorite animal of the day!
Look! A doggy!!
And by the end of the afternoon we were all tired!
