spring break mini vacay: hockey and easter

Thanks to the generosity of WWP, we were able to attend a Carolina Hurricanes game in Raleigh! Since the game was a couple of hours away and ended late at night, we opted to stay in a hotel nearby for the night.

Which meant that we celebrated Easter in a hotel room-- a first for us!! Luckily, the Easter Bunny knew where to find us and the kids woke up to full Easter baskets and eggs to hunt for.

Since we were staying in the Raleigh area, we attended the Easter service at the beautiful Duke University Chapel.

We stopped for a quick lunch at Smithfield's Chicken and BBQ on our way to the BEACH!

We spent Easter evening wandering around Wrightsville Beach and wrapped it up with a delicious dinner at Tower 7.

more fun at the lake

We were originally planning a trip to Florida the second weekend of September, but news of Hurricane Irma forced us to cancel our trip. We made sure to prepare for the storm early since the meteorologists weren't sure how big of an impact the storm would have on the Carolinas-- other people had the same idea!

On the plus side, postponing our Florida trip meant that we could attend the Newsong Tribes meet-up and the kids were VERY excited to get out on the lake!

The younger crowd got a turn to ride, too-- Lexie didn't last long but Ben had a blast!

fun at the lake

Over the summer, our church had monthly groups throughout the community in order to build relationships and have bible study time. The one that we attended was held in a beautiful house on the shores of Lake Norman-- the kids were SO excited to get to go to the lake!

After playing in the pool for a little bit, the kids all headed down to the dock to play in the lake.

They had a blast jumping off of the two-story dock.

We took a break from the lake for dinner and bible study...

...and then headed right back to the water!

We went for a sunset ride on the boat.

Our kids watched while the high schoolers went tubing and worked up enough courage to try it out themselves.

Lexie and Ben's first time on the tube-- Lexie managed to stay on the whole time but Ben fell off.

The boys had a blast tubing-- they're now convinced that we need to move to the lake and buy a boat!

april randomness

Every once in awhile Ellie will venture away from her usual ponytail/pigtails routine and let me french braid her hair.

Nick and his friend created a Reading Garden for their school as part of a class project. In addition to getting Lowe's to donate the materials, they built the whole garden with minimal help and now it's a great place for students to read and relax!

More tennis fun!

We love going to watch Christopher's tennis matches after school!

When Grandma is in town, we do everything from date nights to girls only trips to the mall!

We stopped at Cabo Fish Taco for a delicious lunch before taking Grandma to the airport and just HAD to make a quick stop at the newly opened PopBar, too!
